Organization Overview

Governance

Christ Bible Institute (CBI) is a branch of the Japan Presbyterian Missionary Association and the mission team is overseen by Mission to the World (MTW) Japan, a mission organization of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). The CBI mission team includes missionaries from a variety of mission organizations and represents a variety of denominational backgrounds. (You can find CBI’s statement of faith on the Vision & Mission page.)

Financial Oversight

MTW provides financial accountability as well as leadership oversight and member care. They emphasize grassroots leadership and give CBI good ownership of day-to-day decision making and leadership. CBI is responsible for providing regular reports and updates to MTW.

CBI is supported by a US 501c3 organization called CBI Friends (formerly Friends of Nagoya Theological Seminary). CBI Friends provides additional financial oversight for CBI, especially regarding fundraising efforts. (The CBI Friends board members are listed on the CBI Friends page.)

The CBI Friends Board is responsible to approve a budget that includes CBI’s financial needs for the year. CBI is responsible to provide regular financial reports and ministry updates to CBI Friends. CBI Friends also supports CBI through prayer and advocacy.
