Vision & Mission

Vision

The Gospel of the glory of Christ cherished and proclaimed throughout Japan

In 2 Corinthians 4:4 Paul says that “the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.” Our vision is to see this gospel both cherished and proclaimed—both embraced and expounded—throughout Japan in order that Jesus would be recognized and worshiped in all His glory.

Mission

To equip Christians in Japan for the work of gospel ministry

In Ephesians 4:12 Paul says that God provides teachers “to equip the saints for the work of ministry.” As a training institution, our mission is to equip Christians in Japan to minister the gospel in such a way that others might come to cherish and proclaim the good news of Jesus. Our mission is therefore not simply to transfer information to people but to instigate a gospel movement that will create a ripple effect throughout Japan.

Core Values

  1. Gospel Lifestyle – Our team and ministry promotes and lives a gospel way of life. This is how we take the gospel deeper into the hearts of those to whom and with whom we minister.
  2. Freedom to Fail – We are committed to trying new things in order to fulfill our mission faithfully and we are willing to risk failure to do that, which is extremely countercultural in Japan. This is how we take the gospel further into places where it is not yet present.
  3. Respecting Foundations – Although unreached missiologically, the Japanese have an established church with a rich history that we celebrate and take seriously, and we are committed to helping the church face its biggest challenges together.
  4. Interconnection – CBI is a place where diverse people come together from all over Japan and all over the world, which facilitates our work of taking the gospel deeper and further throughout Japan.
