Dynamics of Gospel Renewal focuses on corporate gospel renewal. It asks what church revitalization is and why it is needed and fleshes out in practical terms how the Holy Spirit applies renewal principles within specific church contexts. The course begins with personal renewal dynamics—how the gospel renews one’s own heart as a leader—then turns to corporate renewal dynamics—how the gospel renews a church community.
Introduction to Church Planting and Revitalization

The goal of Introduction to Church Planting and Revitalization is to help students learn to think like a church planter. Japan has a great need for new churches and churches to be revitalized and both efforts require the application of biblical knowledge and practical skills to successfully launch a new or renewed church. This course will introduce what church planting is and why it is important. It will also introduce some best practices and ideas that may be used.
Church Planting and Revitalization in Contemporary Japan

In Church Planting and Revitalization in Contemporary Japan students consider what effective church planting and church revitalization might look like in Japan. The course surveys the history of missional theology as it relates to church planting in Japan and offers a theological vision for church planting and revitalization. Most of the course will focus on key issues confronting those desiring to plant new churches or revitalize existing churches in Japan. Sociological realities such as urbanization and the growth of non-religion will be discussed as well as practical issues such as funding and securing meeting space.
