Oshōgatsu is the Japanese holiday for New Year and is one of the most spiritually significant seasons in Japan. For Japanese Christians, Oshōgatsu poses many challenges: interactions with unbelieving family members, visits to the family grave at a Buddhist temple, pressure from family and coworkers to partake in rituals at Shinto shrines, etc. These all contribute to the fear and shame of being deemed soto as a Christian in Japanese society. As difficult as it may be, Oshōgatsu also provides an opportunity. That is, an invitation to be united in prayer and cry out to the living God for the sake of His name and His people in Japan.
CBI has created a prayer guide designed to focus your intercession on the spiritual dynamics at play during this season. We invite you to join for this focused season of prayer over the New Year holiday! |
