An expanding call to pray for Japan

We recently received an unexpected request through the contact form on the CBI website. This individual thanked us for the CBI-produced Obon prayer guide, informed us she had translated it into Chinese and Japanese, and asked if she could share it to promote prayer for Japan!

The Japanese holiday of Obon takes place in August and is one of the most spiritually significant seasons in Japan. CBI created the Obon prayer guide in order to invite Christians all over the world to join our voices in intercession for Japan.

Over the course of corresponding with the woman who reached out to us, we learned that her friend is hoping to translate the prayer guide into German to help her supporters better understand the need in Japan as well!

CBI’s vision is to see the gospel of the glory of Christ cherished and proclaimed throughout Japan. It is our joy to share resources like this that mobilize God’s people around the world to lift up Japan in order that this vision might become a reality.

The Obon holiday is focused on connecting with family and honoring those who’ve passed on, yet reflects a worldview often in conflict with the truth of Scripture. Please join us in praying through this Obon season!

In addition, CBI is excited to share a new Obon prayer week devotional written specifically for our Japanese audience. Seven CBS alumni have contributed their voices to creating this series that focuses on what it really means to Honor your Father and Mother. You may find it on CBI’s social media the week of August 12.

2024 CBI Press Ministry Expansion Project

CBI Press has had an exciting year of selling new books, distributing old favorites, and resourcing dozens of churches to disciple their people across Japan. We plan to continue this ministry, and are praying that the Lord of the harvest will multiply our efforts in ways that only He can do.

Ways to Pray

Christ Bible Seminary - Praise God for his blessings over the summer intensive courses. Please pray for our students as they are on summer break, spending time with family and friends, many of whom are non-believers.
Joy of Japan Center - Please continue to pray for the new JOJC Director, Taka Oba, as his sabbatical continues.
CBI Counseling - Praise God for those who have registered for the upcoming STEPS program. Please pray for incoming participants, as well as the mentors and trainers as they prepare.
CBI Press - Praise God for the provision of a better place for book storage! Please continue to pray that God would provide for our current book projects, as well as a Japanese staff person.
CBI Media - Please pray for the Lord to use the Japanese Obon prayer week social media posts in a mighty way.
