Testimony of a Life Transformed

I became a Christian at the age of 33. Before that, I had worked as a science museum curator, in education, in human resource development, and as a management consultant. My university major was physics, but I had always been interested in matters of the heart and in spiritual things. I encountered Christ while I was in the United States. Through that experience, I came to realize that I no longer wanted to live for money, success, and myself, but instead to live for God.

While studying counseling at Christ Bible Seminary, I felt as though God was saying to me, “Learn this and continue on in this path.” In his providence, I studied both biblical counseling and general counseling. Whether in theology or in counseling, the consistent message God has continued to speak to me is this: “Seek me, and live for me.”

Today, I continue to seek the unchanging God who is full of love, and to strive to live in him. This is what I hold dear in the ministry of CBI Counseling.

CBI Counseling is a ministry of Christ Bible Institute. Under Asako Eguchi’s leadership, we have been able to start our fifth year of the STEPS biblical counseling and discipleship program—with counseling conducted entirely in Japanese. This November, we will offer the next CBI Counseling course, “Topics in Christian Counseling: Strategies for Change.” Please continue to pray for this vital part of our ministry to help equip Christians in Japan for the work of gospel ministry!

Deeper & Further Renovation Funding Update

Our building and its prime location have always been central to our effort to take the gospel deeper into the hearts of Japanese people and further to the uttermost parts of Japan. But our specific ministry needs have changed and multiplied since we purchased the building in 2011. That’s why we initiated the Deeper & Further renovation project, to make better use of this resource God has provided for us.

In fall 2024, using estimates from contractors, we set an initial fundraising goal of $380,000 for the renovation project, which we raised by January 2025. In the spring, as we received finalized quotes and began the renovation process, necessary adjustments to our contracts led to an increased total cost: $580,000. This summer, we have been raising the additional $200,000 needed to finish the project. By God’s grace and thanks to the generosity of many partners like you, we have raised almost this entire amount!

It’s not too late to give! All donations will go toward CBI’s initiative to take the gospel deeper and further throughout Japan.

Ways to Pray

Deeper & Further conference: Early registration and group rates end this month. Please pray that many groups from churches would be excited to participate together.
Deeper & Further building renovation: Pray that our sovereign Lord would provide the funds, guide all the details, and give us wisdom as we make the final design decisions.
Christ Bible Seminary: The fall semester will begin on Monday, September 1. Please pray for the students as they prepare for a new semester.
CBI Counseling: The new cohort of STEPS participants will begin meeting in September. Pray that God would already be softening the participants’ hearts to experience the gospel at work amid their sin and suffering.
CBI Press: Please pray for the book projects that are underway this fiscal year.
CBI Media: Please pray for our ongoing operations and projects, such as the Solid Joys eDevotional, social media engagement, and article translations.
