How Can We Help Equip Japanese People for Evangelism?

Despite the Japanese being the world’s second largest unreached people group, there are few high-quality evangelistic resources available in the Japanese language. Most resources are translations of Western evangelistic materials and many of them are dated even for a Western audience. There are very limited resources that communicate the gospel in uniquely Japanese concepts and that seek to interpret the Japanese worldview from a biblical perspective.

Christ Bible Institute (CBI) hopes to change that. Our longing is that Christians in Japan might know how to share their faith, and that they might have excellent contextualized resources to help them fulfill that mission.

CBI aims to create a new suite of evangelistic resources that helps Christians in Japan share the gospel with non-Christians. We have chosen the deeply familiar concepts of uchi and soto in order to communicate the gospel as we seek to re-narrate familiar Japanese worldviews through the lens of scripture. Our goal is to help Japanese non-Christians experience an encounter with the living Jesus Christ through the gospel.

The Uchi-Soto Project for Evangelism

CBI has long desired to produce a resource suite for evangelism. Today, God has brought together a wonderful team of folks with different gifts and backgrounds to develop the Uchi-Soto Project. The main author of these resources is CBI’s primary translator, Yuko Brash. We have also included gifted evangelists and theologians on the project team in order to develop the most impactful resource possible.

The Uchi-Soto Project has three parts:

Phase 1: Development (currently taking place!) - $46,000

  • Develop the “Uchi-Soto Approach”
  • Create foundational resources
    • 10-page booklet for large-scale free distribution
    • Workbook evangelistic Bible study
    • Leader’s Guide for the Bible study

Phase 2: Digital - $33,000

  • Create a new webpage for Uchi-Soto Resources

  • Create supplementary videos to bring the foundational resources to life

  • Develop an app to use the same materials in an easily accessible digital format

  • Necessary equipment upgrades and set design

Phase 3: Equip - $8,000

  • Create a Training Seminar Program to disciple Japanese Christians to lead evangelistic Bible studies using the Uchi-Soto tools.

  • Host training cohorts to ensure these resources are used as widely and effectively as possible.

  • Create video resources for training

Total Need - $87,000

*Any funds raised over our goal will be used for other CBI Press projects.

CBI looks forward to sharing more about this exciting project over the next several weeks. Would you consider helping us put these culturally-contextualized, gospel-centered, winsome and accessible evangelistic resources into the hands of Japanese Christians?

For the Uchi-Soto Project, we are seeking to raise $87,000 by the end of the year. By God’s grace, we already have raised $24,317 towards our goal. That leaves us with a little over $60,000 to raise. Please join us in this effort to equip Christians in Japan for the work of gospel ministry. Any funds raised over our goal will go to publish and distribute additional resources for the church in Japan.

As you give, pray and share about the impact of this ministry you are helping spread the  gospel in Japan!
