Application Procedures

Please refer to the admission requirements to ensure you meet the language, residency, and other requirements. For information on tuition and scholarships, please refer to the Japanese pages.

Application procedures vary depending on the academic program and enrollment category.

Full-Time and Part-Time Students

Full-time and part-time applicants must submit the following documents:

  1. Application Form (must be completed in Japanese). After submitting the form, please send the following documents.
  2. Photo (taken within the last 3 months, can be attached by email to admission@shingakkou.net)
  3. Transcript of the last school attended (after high school)
  4. Personal testimony: (can be attached by email)
    • Christian walk (salvation, significant spiritual events in your life, personal growth as a Christian, etc.)
    • Why you want to pursue a theological education and why you chose our school
    • (Married applicants) Spousal Comments: Your spouse’s opinion/impression of your attending seminary
  5. Three letters of recommendation: Please request one from the pastor of your church and two from Christians other than family relatives who have known your faith walk for at least one year. Recommendations may be submitted by one of the following ways: 1) submitted using our online form, 2) fill out the appropriate PDF form and mail to CBS, 3) attach a PDF of the recommendation letter to an email sent to CBS.  We also ask that the letters of recommendation be submitted directly by the person who is recommending you. Once all documents are in order, we will contact you regarding an interview.

    Non-program students and auditors

    Non-program students and auditors should fill out the application form and submit it to the seminary. If necessary, we will contact your church for a reference. After we review your application, you will receive an admission decision.

    Application deadlines

    Spring enrollment (April)* – End of the previous January
    Fall enrollment (September) – End of the previous June
    Winter enrollment (January) – End of the previous October

    *April enrollment is recommended due to the structure of the curriculum. Students who enroll in the fall or winter may not be able to graduate in the normal number of years.
