About STEPS

STEPS is a gospel-centered spiritual recovery program created by The Village Church, based on a 12-step program model. In 2015, the program was introduced to Japan for the first time as an intensive training course. After several years of preparation, STEPS began being offered in Japan as a 6-month program in 2020.

The goal of STEPS is to bring glory to God through gospel-centered change, discipleship training, fellowship, and service. Participants receive one-on-one mentoring, guided daily devotions, an assessment to help examine their hearts, and participate in 13 seminars and small prayer groups.

STEPS is designed for pastors and lay leaders of churches who wish to bring the richness of the gospel, the blessings of mentoring, the practice of small groups, and the concept of “gospel-centered discipleship” to their own churches. Non-pastors and lay leaders are of course welcome to attend.

Also, the STEPS program is not about training to become a counselor. CBI Counseling offers a four-course comprehensive introductory training program for those desiring to learn how to counsel.

The STEPS program at CBI is only offered in Japanese.
