Admission Requirements

In the admission process, Christ Bible Seminary evaluates prospective students holistically for academic potential, character, spiritual maturity, and suitability for ministry. Depending on the program and enrollment status sought by applicants, the seminary expects certain minimum requirements.

Faith, Baptism, and Church Membership

Enrollment in any program or registration for any course at Christ Bible Seminary requires that the applicant make a clear profession of faith in Jesus Christ, that he or she have received Christian baptism, and that he or she be a member in good standing of an orthodox Protestant church.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must have earned a bachelor degree prior to beginning a master’s program (M.Div. or M.A.) at the school. It is not necessary for the applicant’s bachelor degree to have a major in theology. Applicants for the B.Th. and Certificate courses must have a high school diploma (high school equivalency is acceptable).

Japanese Ability

Though Christ Bible Seminary deliberately cultivates an international atmosphere, courses are taught in Japanese. While some courses may be taught bilingually—usually in English and Japanese—the seminary cannot guarantee that students who lack proficiency in Japanese will be able to complete a full program by taking only bilingual courses. Therefore, proficiency in the Japanese language at JLPT N1 level is required for admission as a full-time or part-time student.

Japanese Citizenship or Residency

Christ Bible Seminary admits a small number of non-Japanese students. However, we do not sponsor international students for their visas. International applicants must arrange for visas on their own before they can be admitted.

Commitment to Japan

Non-Japanese applicants must demonstrate a calling and commitment to the work of building God’s kingdom in the nation of Japan. The seminary does not exist to train non-Japanese for ministry outside Japan. Japanese nationals, on the other hand, are assumed to have sufficient commitment to their home country and fellow Japanese. Christ Bible Seminary will consider them for admission regardless of whether their calling is to ministry within Japan or to missionary service outside of Japan.

About Housing

The seminary does not have a dormitory. For those who need it, we can recommend apartments or room-shares. Please contact us for details.
